How/where are you celebrating your birthday and with whom? “We usually travel for my birthday, but this year because of Covid-19, I will be celebrating my birthday with my lovely wife Amanda, son JohnHenry and our black lab, Winston. Celebrating everyone in our family and all friends are healthy and safe.”

How did you get your start in your career? “Came to D.C. from Texas with then-Rep. Gene Green (D-Texas) as his chief of staff on my birthday in 1993.”

What’s an interesting book/article you’re reading during coronavirus social distancing? And why? “I am reading ‘Lincoln on the Verge: Thirteen Days to Washington,’ by Ted Widmer . Learning from history … makes us better citizens.”

What’s a trend going on in the U.S. or abroad that doesn’t get enough attention? “Hunger. There are so many people struggling with putting food on the table for their family.”

What are you watching for in the Biden presidency? “Competence and integrity. We are a better people than what we have seen lately.”

What’s a fun fact that people in Washington might not know about you? “Most people don’t know I was a cop and a Texas assistant attorney general.”
