5 Reasons Why Followers Continue To Support Certain Political Leaders

Have you ever wondered why certain political leaders appear to be wearing Teflon, and, it appears, regardless of what that individual does, or says, his followers and supporters, continue to support him, apparently, not caring, or being adversely affected? On the other hand, sometimes, someone holding a position, ends up being blamed for everything, and, even one, minor mistake, or misstatement, becomes politically, extremely costly! Nearly every day, I overhear someone, who is not a Trump supporter, wondering, aloud, why/ how, his supporters, seem to overlook his actions and/ or statements, and continue to support and believe in, and cast him in a favorable light! This article will briefly, attempt to discuss, five, of these reasons, as to why many followers, continue to support certain political leaders, even when they aren’t fulfilling any of their empty promises.

1. Prioritizing what they want, over what actually is: Whether it is a matter of Drinking the Kool – Aid, being naive, wasteful, ineffective, or selfish, it appears, many people become so focused on believing the false spin, they actually buy, the rhetoric about the mainstream media, offering Fake News! Just because someone says it, even vehemently and often, doesn’t make it facts. In other words, a lie, by any other name, is still a lie! Consider the fact, the President has been fact – checked, and has been deemed to have lied or misstated facts, every single day, since he was elected. How would you explain the fact, there are still people who seem to believe him?

2. Convince themselves, stories they disagree with, are Fake News: While it may be normal, to, care deeply, and be passionate in one’s views, does it make any sense, to continuously overlook reality, because it doesn’t conform to one’s preferences, and/ or biases? How often will these people by the nonsense about things constantly being Fake News, while accepting fake news, and lies, as long as they agree with their position?

3. Hatred/ bias against opposition: Have you noticed that nearly every time, Mr. Trump is questioned, or feels accused, etc, he replies by bringing up his less – than – popular former political opponent, Hillary Clinton, and repeats claims which have been refuted and disputed, numerous times, but his core followers, continue to accept? When a political leader uses vitriol and rhetoric, to stir up hatred and bias, does he deserve to be in a leadership position?

4. Supports their personal beliefs/ agenda: Simply because something is what a supporter or group of supporters want, or hope for, even if they are morally, often, at odds with the principles and ideals of the American Constitution, doesn’t make it a fact! However, clever politicians, when confronted, often resort to rhetoric, which will stir the pot!

5. Easily fooled, naive, or don’t pay quality attention: We all know the adage, Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me again, shame on me! However, for example, it appears, this President’s core followers, …

Book Review – Letters To Philip: On How To Treat a Woman

It may seem chivalry and courtesy are dead. This seems to be the time for political correctness, uni-sex, and rights. Although there is some benefits on political correctness, this mode of thinking can go overboard when there is no distinction between men and women. There are certain times when chivalry and courtesy are proper manners and etiquette. One book, “Letters To Philip: On How To Treat A Woman”, is one book that explicitly discusses on how to be a gentleman by properly treating a woman.

In most cultures, there is a transition from adolescents to adulthood. In the Jewish tradition, there will be a bar mitzvah to signify the transition from a boy to a man. In certain cultures (such as in the deep South), they have debuts and sweet sixteen celebration for the female. Unfortunately, many people would signify the transition from young adult to an adult by going out with friends and getting drunk. It is a transition to be free from responsibilities rather than to be more responsible.

The book, “Letters To Philip: On How To Treat A Woman”, was written in the late sixties. It is quite a short and succinct book that is direct on how a young man (especially before getting married) should treat a woman. This is quite rare in our “modern society”. It was written by Charlie Shedd for his son. It is written as a series of letters where one letter covers a particular topic. Here are the letters with specific topics that are helpful for any young man:

* Take Charge

* Learn to be Kind

* Start at the Mirror

* Ask Her to Help You Grow

* Seven Goals for Communication

* If You Like It, Say So

* The Power of Suggestion

* How to Tell Her What You Don’t Like

* Winning by Losing

* Fragments of Devotion

* “I Can Hardly Wait to See You”

* “Late” is a Four-Letter Word

* How To Treat a Woman in Public

* How Not To Treat A Woman

* Treat Her as a Person

* A Half-Dozen “Nevers”

* And a Few “Try Not To’s”

* Some Moments are Only for Her

* Dialogue on Moods

* Troubles are For Sharing

* Fight the Good Fight

* Rural Wisdom

* Money Maxims

* Clothers, Hair, and Miscellany

* In-Laws

* Sex- The Twenty-Year Warmup

* Infidelity

* “Except the Lord Build this House”

* The Man Who Had A “Thing” About Guns.

There a lot of lessons and perspectives in a small but powerful book. This is a fantastic book on building a long-term relationship with your wife. It is about investing (not costing) value in a relationship that will reap benefits for her and for any man.…

Fidel Castro And the Cuban Revolution – 51 Years of Tyranny

1960s A Pro-Soviet Tyranny

1959-1960: Following Fidel Castro’s overthrow of the dictatorial Batista administration, a host of people, including children and women, welcomed the arrival of guerrillas, but they turned the Island — about the size of Tennessee– into a place of repression. On the other side, Raúl Castro had been hand-picked by his brother, Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz, as the second leader of the Cuban Revolution. In the meantime, in the early years of the new regime, up to 3,200 Cubans had been slaughtered by Fidel Castro and his family. On the economic side, Castro nationalized all U.S. businesses (without compensation). In fact, these events marked the beginning of one the world’s worst undemocratic governments. Toward the end of 1960, Washington imposed an embargo on Cuba.

1960-1980: As a consequence of the totalitarian policies, over one million Cubans had fled to America (chiefly Florida), Canada, Mexico, Venezuela, Spain and Italy.

1960-1982: Inspired by the People’s Republic of China, Albania and other Communist tyrannies, Cuba’s undemocratic state had decimated the country’s tourism industry.

1960-2007: In one of Fidel Castro’s many dictatorial reforms, hemade his sister-in-law, Vilma Espín, President of the Federation of Cuban Women –a key organization on Cuba. Espín, Raúl Castro’s wife, was leader of the feminist organization until her abrupt death on June 18, 2007.However in time, she, a former Marxist guerrilla, was known as the “First Lady of the Cuban Revolution”. Over the decades of the Soviet Empire, she had strong links with radical feminist movements from Eastern Europe, Asia, Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa.

1960-2010: World-famous dancer and choreographer Alicia Alonso Martínez became one of the key women, alongside Haydée Santamaria Cuadrado, Vilma Espín Guillois, Celia Sánchez Manduley and Mireya Luis Hernández, in the Cuban Revolution. Since then, she used her fame and prestige to clean up the Island’s bad image. By the early 60s, Fidel Castro gave Alonso $200,000 to set up the Cuban National Ballet. From then on, the Ballet Nationalbecame an open door for Cuban influence in the Third World and Europe.

1961: The Island’s history took sudden turn in this year as the provisional rule declared the country a Marxist stateand began a close relationship with the Kremlin -the USSR was one of the first states to recognize Cuba’s tyranny–and their allies, including the German Democratic Republic (GDR), North Korea and Czechoslovakia. From then on, Moscow played a key role in the Cuban Revolution. Nonetheless, after Cuba became a pro-Soviet dictatorship, the political relationship between the States and the Island worsened. On January 3, 1961, the tensions between both governments came to a head as America severed diplomatic ties with the rule of Cuba.

1962: The Republic of Cuba was suspended from the Organization of American States (OAS), which was founded on April 30 1948 in Bogotá (Colombia), over its dictatorial rule.

1962- 1990: Unlike many Marxist states in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia, including Ethiopia (the world’s poorest nation), Guinea, Laos and Cambodia (Asia’s poorest country), the Island’s human development, from employment …

Who Is Responsible for India’s Jobless Growth?

The push for structural reforms in the past few years – including unprecedented moves to curb black money, relaxation in FDI norms, introduction of the ripe and ready GST, and digitization of services – has helped improve the credit profile of the country, and thus ease its high-debt burden.

The nation’s progress is also reflected on the charts with the Annual Growth Rate scaling much higher than the forecasted growth rates of more than 7 per cent in the past two quarters. It is only in the first quarter of this year that the growth rate has slowed down to 6.1 per cent.

While most of the indicators of growth, viz., strengthening of rupee, stabilization of inflation and increase in FDIs (foreign direct investments) show an upturn to the realization of the promise of ‘Acche Din’, there remains one that reveals the flip side of the ‘Indian Success Story’- the Employment Data.

A critical analysis of the employment scenario across various sectors shows that India is slowly slipping into a long-lasting phase of jobless growth. By industry, the service sector has been the biggest contributor to the Indian economy’s growth.. Trade, hotels, transport and communication, financing, insurance, real estate, business services and community, and social and personal services account for more than 60 per cent of the country’s GDP. Agriculture, forestry and fishing together constitute around 12 per cent of the output, but employs more than 50 per cent of the labor force. Manufacturing makes a contribution of 15 per cent in the GDP, while construction adds another 8 per cent. Mining, quarrying, electricity, gas and water supply build the remaining 5 per cent (Source: MINISTRY OF STATISTICS AND PROGRAMME IMPLEMENTATION, GOI, update – June 2017).

Competition Pressure

After years of steady, consistent growth, many Indian IT companies have faced massive competitive pressure. This has pushed them towards the trend of ‘cost cutting’ in the past few years. According to the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), the rate at which jobs are generated in the IT industry is terribly lower than the average year-on-year growth of the industry itself. It is, thus, evident that the Indian IT industry, while moving towards greater automation, is fast becoming a job-less proposition.

Skilled yet un-skilled

While most try to corner the Government on the issue, as I recall from the discussion at the Parliamentarian Youth Conclave, held in March at Delhi, ‘growing un-employment’ was a persistent undertone of the questions put forth by the youth delegates to most of the Cabinet Ministers from Shri Prakash Javadekar to Shri Piyush Goel. Addressing the concerns, Shri Prakash Javadekar commented, “.. It is also a result of the youth today looking for high-paying options, rather than a good job. This herd mentality is at the root of this crisis”. Dr Bindeshwar Pathak, Founder of Sulabh International and a celebrated social reformer, also stated, “There is no dearth of jobs for those who really want to work and understand the importance of growing one …

Smart Phone Photography

With the purchase of my rather expensive camera a while back it was like winning the lottery. It takes gorgeous photos and can be zoomed in or out to get the best shot. It also has automatic focus and the memory card helps to deposit the photos onto the computer. But then a few months ago when returning a recently purchased lap top the money was used to buy a Samsung Galaxy elite smart phone.

What a surprise! The photography possible with this machine is far better than any camera owned previously. It takes shot after shot of incredible photos whose detail can be enlarged and studied. Like the camera before it of course it takes videos as well.

This is a far cry from the first camera that my brother gave me when I was around 8 years of age. It was quite small but the photos I took have survived and are a record of the family history from those early years. Film had to be inserted and then the photos developed through the local chemist. It meant saving my pocket-money to redeem them.

From that time to this photography has been one of my hobbies and the quantity of shots from just about everywhere travelled or experiences enjoyed are filling albums and taking up storage space around the home. That is unnecessary with the new technology. The computer stores anything needing to be kept while some photos are printed immediately either through my printer or the local shop.

The difference in convenience and cost is astronomical and the pleasure of taking photos has increased enormously thanks to the new smart phone.…

Your Guide to Multiple Reading Practices in Literature

It’s the most fundamental concept in dealing with any study of Literature or any art form for that matter, the concept of multiple reading practices is basically a taxonomy of the different methods with which you can obtain meaning from a text. Your natural reaction to anything in life is generally a judgment, a natural human urge to make sense of your surroundings…similarly when applied to a reader’s reaction to literature you can utilize different established approaches to making sense of texts.

Dominant Reading:

A Dominant Reading usually provides a reading of the text reflecting a broad consensus on what a text may mean, such a reading usually places a great deal of emphasis on how the reader believes the author has positioned them to respond. The reader usually reads the text in an ‘author friendly’ manner, although I’ve always been mystified as to how the reader determines what the intended meaning of a text was, on the part of an author, nevertheless this concept of a dominant reading persists as a type of reading which supposedly involves the reader traveling along the trajectory the author has designed to produce the meaning that the author intended. It is my personal opinion, that it is simply the ‘mainstream’ interpretation of a text which gains the de facto legitimacy of ‘author approved’ by sheer weight of numbers.

Alternative Reading

An Alternative Reading produces as the name might suggest, a meaning that is different from a dominant reading but nevertheless recognizes the purpose of the author in a text and does not ‘go against the grain’ of the text. The distinction between an Alternative Reading and a Resistant Reading, would probably be that an Alternative Reading is still heavily reliant on the text while a Resistant Reading implicitly requires to a greater extent ideological or contextual baggage which the reader uses to challenge the premise of a text.

Resistant Reading

A Resistant Reading ‘goes against the grain of the text’ and usually involves the reader being less reliant on the text and usually involves a much greater contextual influence; in terms of ideology, race, class or gender.

Feminist Reading

A Feminist reading foregrounds the representations of women: by that I mean the way key female characters are characterised and the values they hold, and the way the reader is positioned to respond to them.

Judith Fetterly author of ‘The Resisting Reader’ a seminal work in the area of Feminist and other recent developments in alternative readings, summarized the purpose of a feminist reading as “Feminist criticism is a political act whose aim is not simply to interpret the world but to change it by changing the consciousness of those who read and their relation to what they read.”

The underlying assumption of any Feminist Reading is an awareness or ‘consciousness’ on the part of the reader of a patriarchal hegemony reinforcing an oppressive set of roles and expectations for women, and literature as part of a dominant discourse for much of human history …

How Traditional Chinese Health Beliefs and Chinese Culture Influence Health and Illness?

Traditional Chinese health beliefs adopt a holistic view emphasizing the importance of environmental factors in increasing risk of disease. According to Quah (1985), these factors influence the balance of body’s harmony, yin and yang. These are two opposite but complementary forces and, together with qi (vital energy), they control the universe and explain the relationship between people and their surroundings. Imbalance in these two forces, or in the qi, results in illness.

In order to restore the balance, traditional remedial practices may be needed. For example, excess `hot’ energy can be counterbalanced by cooling herbal teas, and vice versa. These beliefs are deeply ingrained among the Chinese, and have been found to be unchanged following migration to Singapore.

Lee, et. al. (2004), found that patients with specific chronic diseases, namely arthritis, musculoskeletal diseases and stroke, were more likely to use Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This was strongly determined by the ‘chronic disease triad’, perceived satisfaction with care and cultural health beliefs.

Hence the use of TCM is not associated with the quality of doctor-patient interaction. Astin (1998) also agreed that it was seen as being more compatible with the patients’ values, spiritual and religious philosophy, or beliefs regarding the nature and meaning of health and illness.

In traditional Chinese culture, taking medication is thought to be aversive, hence medications tend to be taken only until symptoms are relieved and then discontinued; if symptoms are not obvious, medications will probably never be taken.

Apart from parental cultural beliefs, minor side effects of certain antibiotics such as stomach upset may contribute to the poor adherence of medication. The use of “leftover”, “shared” antibiotics and over-the-counter purchase of antibiotics by parents are common situations in the community.

They think that their children suffer from the same illnesses judging by the similar symptoms, so they would give the “leftover” or “shared” antibiotics to their children and only bring them to their doctors if there is no improvement (Chang & Tang, 2006). This may cause their conditions to deteriorate and may necessitate aggressive treatments later which may have unnecessary side effects.

However, there are small groups of Chinese who also blamed ill-health or misfortunes on supernatural forces, or on divine retribution, or on the malevolence of a ‘witch’ or ‘sorcerer’ (Helman, 1994). Such groups will usually seek cures from their religions.

In Singapore, the Ministry of Health has drawn up the TCM Practitioners’ Ethical Code and Ethical Guidelines to prevent any unscrupulous practitioners from preying on their patients and taking advantage of their beliefs, for example, molesting ignorant patients.

The degree of acculturation has been evidenced in the following case. An old man was brought into our hospital with a week-long history of malaise, nausea and vomiting, and sudden jaundice. He was diagnosed to have an obstructive mass in the liver.

A biopsy revealed hepatocellular carcinoma. The serological test suggested chronic active hepatitis B. When the news broke to his son that his father had cancer, he requested not to disclose that to his father.…

Understand How To Get Your Ex Boyfriend Back Again Through The Laws Of Attraction

Try not to worry, even though you are in a hellish situation at the moment, it does not indicate that this will forever be the situation. Giving up on your relationship merely because you were dumped is not needed because there are heaps of things that you can try to regenerate his passion for you.

You will possibly not recognize the reason why your boyfriend left you and his conduct could appear wholly out of character, but you will still find things that you can do about that. Feeling angry and over emotional right now probably won’t do you any favours in the long run, it’s going to just make you feel worse. He’ll almost certainly go back to you if you use expert know-how and never go into this with your eyes closed.

It’s time for something different. It is essential that you get your emotions under control as fast as you can if you are to stand any chance of making him want you back again. There is no doubt that your emotions will be running high after a break up and that you will be feeling very angry and upset. If you do not do this then there will be tough times ahead for you. You do not want to end up making a fool of yourself or it will be difficult to reverse.

Never allow yourself to stoop to the depths of hurling abuse at him or wailing for him to take you back, it does not look pretty and all respect that he did have for you will be lost. If you choose to go down this route you will regret it as this is the last thing that he wants to hear. The male species are very different from females in this respect, they do not like to deal with feelings as it makes them feel uncomfortable.

You must do everything in your power to make yourself attractive to him again and this means that there will be no tears or tantrums in front of him! You do not want him to pity you in any way, but instead be surprised about how well you seem to be handling the break up. If he ends up respecting you then this will work wonders for you in getting him back. Respect is the only foundation for a successful relationship so make sure that it is in place before you get onto the next stage. If you realise how special you are, he will too, and his views of you will alter as well.

The key to making yourself feel better about yourself is taking control of your situation. Cry your heart out and take your frustrations out in a healthy way, but you will have to pick yourself up and get on with things if you want him to see you in a positive way. It is the way that you deal with heart ache that sets you apart from the rest, so make sure …
